Community solutions bring real change. On May 15, the Chinook Sexual Assault Centre is hosting “Believe and Transform”, a full-day conference at the Galt Museum and Archives. We invite you to join us for this community conversation to address exploitation. The event will feature several interactive sessions designed to explore community solutions to the devastating evolution of physical and sexual exploitation. We invite you to join us on April 16th, from 5:30pm-7:00pm, for Creative Pathways to Wellness where we will doing junk shadow boxes. Creative Pathways to Wellness is all about exploring different art modalities in support of your mental and emotional wellbeing. Whether you are a seasoned artist or just looking to try something new, this open group offers a welcoming space to create, connect, and unwind. Supplies are limited and registration is required to join.

We’re excited to offer a one-time, three-hour online training for youth ages 15 to 30. This interactive workshop builds real-world skills around understanding and preventing sexual harassment — skills you can use at work, in school, and in everyday life. Participants receive a certificate of completion, and while the training is regularly $75, it’s currently being offered at no cost for those 30 and under. Upcoming sessions: April 28 — 9:00 a.

We are happy to share that we are facilitating our Responding to Disclosures training through Lethbridge Integrated Coordinated Access (ICA) on May 15th. May is Sexual Violence Awareness Month, and we are grateful to be able to provide this training to continue strengthening community response to sexual violence. This is a training for community professionals on navigating disclosures of sexual violence. This training will provide attendees with foundational knowledge, insights, skill building within receiving disclosures, and community connections to best support those that have been harmed through sexualized violence.

Again this year, the Chinook Sexual Assault Centre is participating in RunWild, an annual running event to raise funds for child advocacy centres throughout Canada. RunWild is great family fun with options for 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and WildOnes 1.2K childrens’ fun runs. In Lethbridge, RunWild is held as a virtual event, allowing you and your family to register and participate in the location your choice. Taking part in RunWild will help support the good work of the Chinook Child and Youth Advocacy Centre.

Sexual Violence Awareness Month (SVAM) is a time to raise awareness about sexual violence, support those impacted, and advocate for change. This is an important time for the Chinook Sexual Assault Centre and each year we organize a number of events, activities and initiatives to help promote our mission of ending sexual violence in southwestern Alberta.
