Volunteer Opportunities

1. Committees

In the next few months, we will be seeking to add up to three positions for our Board of Directors. Please watch for details.

2. Events

From time to time, our organization hosts events to raise funds or promote awareness. If you are interested in volunteering to help us, please contact us at advancement@csacleth.ca or call 403-694-1094. We will require a volunteer application form, a short interview, screening (different depending on event), and orientation (different depending on event).

3. Group Activities

We are not currently seeking volunteers in this area. Sometimes we require volunteers to assist with events or special projects such as office painting, stuffing envelopes, delivering posters, or toy and self care drives.

4. Specialized Services

We are not currently seeking volunteers in this area. Sometimes we require Peer Support Group Co-Facilitators to work alongside staff in the delivery of Peer Support Groups to people who have experienced sexualized violence. In order to volunteer for this position, we will require: A Volunteer Application Form, an interview, references, an orientation, a Current Criminal History Check Inclusive of the Vulnerable Sector and a Current Child Protection Background Check.

5. Practicum Placements

Calls from institutions or students need to occur minimally one month prior to expected placement. The CSAC may determine that placements cannot be accommodated. Preferences are for those students in their last year of study in their chosen field. If you’re interested in applying for a practicum position, please provide resume complete with cover letter, outlining your employment history, education and certifications, as well as three references who can speak to your previous work. Upon hiring, we will require a Current Criminal History Check Inclusive of the Vulnerable Sector and a Current Child Protection Background Check

Trauma Support Navigator

  • Position: Trauma Support Navigator
  • Program: Chinook Sexual Assault Centre
  • Number of Positions: 1
  • Term: Full time permanent (37.5 hours per week)
  • Salary: $25 per hour, Health and Lifestyle Benefits at 3 months
  • Start Date: June 15, 2026
  • Closing Date: June 5, 2026 at 5 pm

Position Summary:

This multifaceted role combines direct support for people harmed by sexual violence, integrated case management, public education, and facilitation of peer support groups. The Trauma Support Navigator is dedicated to empowering those impacted by sexualized violence and promoting community awareness about primary prevention and response.

Key Responsibilities:

Survivor Advocacy and Support

  • Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, ongoing support including system navigation, and pre therapy stabilization to those harmed
  • Offer information, referrals, and accompaniment services (e.g., medical)
  • Provide psychoeducation about trauma, coping strategies, and the healing process
  • Advocate for the best interests of those harmed within multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews
  • Explain legal processes, victims’ rights, and available services in age-appropriate and accessible language
  • Provide for warm transfers to other services internal and external Integrated Case Management
  • Conduct thorough needs assessments with clients to identify risks, strengths, and goals
  • Complete all other assessment and surveys as assigned
  • Develop individualized case plans in collaboration with clients based on their needs and goals
  • Provide referrals to appropriate community resources and support services
  • Provide psychoeducation about trauma, coping strategies, and the healing process
  • Maintain comprehensive and confidential client records Education and Community Outreach
  • Work collaboratively with the Public Education Specialist
  • Develop and deliver public education programs on sexual violence, consent, and legal rights
  • Conduct training sessions for professionals in various sectors (e.g., healthcare, education, law enforcement) on responding to sexual violence
  • Organize and participate in community awareness events and campaigns
  • Develop educational materials and resources on legal rights for survivors and the public Collaboration and Networking
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, including legal services, law enforcement agencies, and other support organizations
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary case management meetings and community coalitions addressing sexual violence Peer Support Group Facilitation
  • Develop, organize and facilitate peer support groups for people harmed by sexual violence
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for group participants
Required Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral
  • Excellent translation of trauma informed practice
  • Understanding of adverse childhood experiences
  • Ability to work with children, youth, adults and families
  • Excellent rapport building skills
  • Strong advocacy skills
  • Practical knowledge of justice system, child protection services and victim rights
  • Ability to speak additional languages a strong asset.

  • Willingness to travel for meetings
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as required for community events and program activities
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience working with survivors of sexual violence or in a related field
  • Strong knowledge of laws pertaining to sexual assault and victims’ rights
  • Experience in public speaking and delivering educational presentations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Proficiency in trauma-informed care approaches and crisis intervention techniques

Travel is a requirement in this position. The successful candidate must have access toa. Road safe vehicle, possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s license, and have proper insurance coverage of $2,000,000 to meet industry standards.
